Draft Info for All Leagues DRAFT DAY BEGINS AUG 24th INDIVIDUAL DEFENSIVE PLAYERS NEW! Scoring Rules for Starting Defensive Players in Leagues:
Why this scoring? Well, after looking at random weekly performance of the tops individually in tackling, interceptions, sacks, etc. (players like Ray Lewis, LaRoi Glover, Derrick Brooks, Eric Allen) this combination of scoring seemed to allow consistently between 10-20 points per week for player, with peak performance at 25-30 points. This is consistent with the sort of scoring seen out of other 'skill' positions like RB. Some players had weeks of 2 or 3 pts. Others averaged over 20 per week. That's what Fantasy Football is all about. At 120 solo tackles a year plus another 50 assists for the tops individually in both AFC and NFC, that means a top flight individual defense player should get around 220-250 points over a season - which puts them below top flight QBs and RBs, but in the second tier of scorers. That's the sort of skill player addition I was looking for to add variety to draft day and to the waiver wire. How Will We Draft Them? Draft will happen as with all other skill positions. Rosters will be enlargened to accomodate 18 players - giving you 3 additional slots over the 15 previous. That should give you both enough room to draft defensive stars, as well as tack a flyer on a rookie RB from McNeese State. Questions - flame away! KEEPERS Teams may elect to save up to 3 keepers per season from their previous season roster. Keepers must be in different positions - you can only save 1 RB, 1 QB and 1 WR for example - no stockpiling of 2 or 3 running backs from last season. PENALTIES FOR FRANCHISE PLAYERS Players that you elect to freeze are designated Franchise Players. You suffer a penalty for keeping the player equal to loosing 1 draft pick.
Thus, there is a penalty for keeping a large number of players from the previous season...you loose out on the early draft rounds and potentially lose access to some great new talent. ORDER OF THE DRAFT Order of the draft is based entirely on last season's final rankings. For the Doomsday and Steel Curtain leagues, these can be seen (in reverse order or order of drafting) to the right. You may trade draft slots to other teams (I'll trade you Rice and my 3rd round slot for Faulk and your 7th round slot) but you are required to confirm with the commissioner at least three days prior to draft day - and your trading partner is also required to confirm. TYPE OF DRAFT The software that will run the leagues offers an offline web-based draft which allows coaches to draft at their leisure. Some basic rules and guidelines (these may change as the software may have changed since last year):
WHEN IS DRAFT THEN? Draft will begin Saturday August 24th 2003. Typically it takes about 1 1/2 weeks to do one of these offline drafts, sometimes faster and sometimes slower. Regardless, that should give us plenty of time to get our cheatsheets ready first, and get ready for the season after draft is over. WHEN ARE FRANCHISE PLAYERS DUE? All the rosters have been transfered over to the new league websites. You should go in and waive the players that you do not wish to keep. You can keep up to three players from last season's roster. If you are taking over someone else's team, you have the option to keep some or none of the players on your inherited roster. |
